Now Welcoming Under 2 Years of Age

Chilton Preschool has expanded to include a beautifully refurbished, purpose-built learning environment designed especially for our youngest learners.

This thoughtfully created space provides a safe, nurturing, and stimulating setting where infants and toddlers can develop secure relationships, explore with confidence, and flourish at their own pace. Guided by our experienced teaching team, children are supported through responsive care, meaningful interactions, and engaging experiences that lay strong foundations for future learning.

Nurturing Curious, Capable Learners

At Chilton Preschool, we foster each child’s sense of belonging and natural curiosity, guided by the Chilton Saint James School values of respect, inclusivity, resilience, and integrity.

We believe children learn best through meaningful relationships, purposeful play, and engaging experiences that inspire them to explore, question, create, and discover.

Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum

Reflecting the vision and philosophy of Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum, our programme embraces a holistic approach to learning, recognising every child as a confident and capable learner. We offer a thoughtful balance of child-led exploration and intentional teaching, weaving together literacy, numeracy, and inquiry-based learning through meaningful, play-based experiences.

This intentional approach nurtures children’s confidence, communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills while laying strong foundations for future learning and a lifelong love of learning.

Specialist Programmes

Children also enjoy weekly specialist programmes, including Music and Library (from 2 years of age) and Dance (from 3 years of age), enriching their learning through creative opportunities.

Our experienced teaching team creates a caring, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where every child is known, valued, and supported to reach their full potential.

A Seamless Start to School

We offer full-day and extended-day options, welcoming girls and boys from under 2 to 5 years of age. Chilton Preschool is a special place where children and their whānau are embraced as part of our community, welcoming families from Lower Hutt and beyond.

For girls continuing to Chilton Saint James Primary School, the transition is seamless.
