Our Curriculum

Students are engaged in thoughtful, creative learning with a curriculum which is designed to stimulate and challenge.

Class sizes are small and students study core subjects plus a variety of option subjects.

No two days are the same. However, there are daily lessons in Numeracy, Literacy and Inquiry with specialist teaching in Dance, Music, Languages, Physical Education, Religious Education and Art.

We ensure each student is nurtured to their fullest potential in an environment of fun, exploration, encouragement and attentiveness.

A Day in the Life of the Middle School

Middle School is not just about academic growth; it’s also a time of significant social development and self discovery.  The skills acquired in the Middle School contribute substantially to building a solid foundation for success in later years.

The day begins with a burst of energy as students arrive at school.  Classroom activities are diverse and there is an important balance between school work and social activity.

Lunctime offers a welcome break with students forging friendships and enjoying outdoor fun and games.

Afternoon classes are stimulating and lead on to extracurricular pursuits once the school day has finished.

Other Information

The pastoral care programme for the Middle School is a comprehensive and nuturing system designed to support the holistic development of students during this critical phase of their education.

Our approach to supporting inquiring minds involves creating an open and supportive environment that encourages questions and a genuine love for learning.  Our experienced staff and specialist teachers strive to ignite the intellectual curiosity of our students.  We provide and facilitate opportunities for all students to pursue their interests and connect classroom concepts to real world situations.

We believe in the power of physical activity not only for promoting a healthy lifestyle but also for instilling values such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Our sports program offers a diverse range of activities, ensuring that every student can find a sport that resonates with their interests and talents.

Arts and culture take center stage at our middle school, enriching the educational experience and fostering creativity among our students. Our commitment to a well-rounded education is reflected in a vibrant arts program that encompasses visual arts, performing arts, and cultural exploration. Students are encouraged to express themselves through various mediums, developing their artistic skills and discovering their unique voices. From painting and sculpture to drama and music, our curriculum provides a diverse array of opportunities for students to explore their creative interests.

Transitioning from middle school to senior school is a carefully managed and supportive process at Chilton. Recognising the significance of this educational milestone, we have established a transition program that helps family and whanau to understand the journey to senior school.  Information sessions and meetings with our skilled team of teachers will help guide and support students through this important stage of learning.
