Middle & Senior School Weekly Bulletin – 17 September

Tēnā koutou

Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro nōnā te ngahere, ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga nōnā te ao.

The bird that partakes of the miro berry reigns in the forest, the bird that partakes of the power of knowledge has access to the world.

This whakataukī expresses beautifully what our students strive to do each day. I would like to tautoko our Year 10 to 13 students who have been doing their school examinations this week. Their focus, effort and application has been impressive and the feedback they receive from this effort will set them in good stead for their final examinations. It is so important that students see tests, assessments and examinations as learning opportunities that simply reflect what they know or can do at that point in time rather than something that is tied to their self-worth. Learning is a progression and a lifelong pursuit which enriches our lives greatly with new experiences and knowledge.

We have been celebrating ‘Te Wiki o te Reo Māori’ and students took part in the Māori language moment on Tuesday, singing Six60’s ‘Pepeha’ which you will see in our videos from Year 8. It has also been heartening to see students embracing te Reo Māori in their everyday lives.

Have a wonderful weekend with your loved ones!
