Preschool Weekly Bulletin – 5 November

Penguin

Pretend play has been front and centre for our Penguins this week. We have been loving cooking and making cups of coffee in the family corner, and were especially enthralled by the hairdressers station!

This type of play encourages children to ‘act out’ scenarios that they have seen or know about in their life outside Preschool, enabling them to make connecting links to the wider world and strengthen their learning about how to operate successfully in a social environment.

Maui

This week we have been exploring our letter of the week (Uu) through crafts and games such as ‘Who’s under the blanket?’

Continuing our Curriculum Focus on the wonderful world of Animals, we have been discovering farm animals and their babies:

Kea

Many interesting and fun activities have been enjoyed by the Kea tamariki in the classroom this week – all designed to reinforce their literacy learning. Our letter of the week has been explored in many ways; puzzle building, block play, and writing/drawing activities to name a few!

Kotare

In the Kotare class, as we are continuing with our dinosaur learning and preparing children for their upcoming transition to Primary school. At the end of each term, the children moving to Primary look forward to their ‘Jump Up’ ceremony. We endeavour to make this the most special time we can, and as part of that, we have recently purchased a ‘Korowai’ cloak. The colours reflect the many native birds of New Zealand, Aotearoa, but we were especially thinking of the Kotare bird that we have named our group after.

Korowai are used to honour the wearer and the special occasion. A special taonga (treasure) for our special children.
