We hope you have all had a good week in your bubbles and enjoyed the benefits of Level 3. It has certainly been beautiful weather and perfect for getting outside into the sunshine.
The past couple of weeks have been a true test of resilience and I couldn’t be more proud of how our Chilton students have risen to this challenge. Their effort and positive attitude make the online lessons much more enjoyable for their peers and teachers alike.
As teachers, we understand that parents know their children best and if fatigue is setting in and time away from the screen is deemed the most appropriate action, we support this wholeheartedly. We really appreciate you letting staff know when students cannot be online, including when there are issues with connectivity or technical hiccups. If you could please also include deverett@chilton.school.nz or absences@chilton.school.nz that will help us with the correct attendance coding. If students are using an ipad for their Zoom lessons, an email to the form teacher would be helpful so they can be excused from having their video switched off during the lesson and their teachers know that this is the reason.
I know that both students and their families have appreciated the shorter days spread throughout the week and while we are at Alert Level 3, we will continue to do this. On that note, Monday the 6th of September will be the same as in the previous weeks, with our Spell 1 moved to Spell 4 when we would usually have an assembly slot. The Spell 2 lesson will begin at 9.30am as usual.
We are very conscious of the emotional welfare of students at this time and below is an excellent YouTube link aimed at providing them with practical strategies to care for their mental health during a pandemic and beyond.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the first signs of spring.

This week, Year 7 Music class has been exploring what composers Richard Wagner and John Williams had in common. Can you guess? Leitmotifs! These are recurring short melodic ideas associated with a character, concept, or place. Here is a screenshot from our Year 7 Music class as we explored the leitmotifs in John William’s iconic Star Wars score.
Sophia Turner & Anji Chu from the Year 7&8 Positive Fairies Committee have a great video for you today to spread some positivity.
The Student Council have come together with a range of great quizzes during lockdown, they got students involved in Lockdown’s Got Talent, they even ran Wacky hat/hair day on Wednesday. To top it all off they created the Chilton on a Plate challenge!
Thank you to all those who sent us in videos and images. Here’s a wrap up of the week!
Stay safe and be kind ❤
