The Penguin group started off the week by making morning tea together. Everyone was so good at trying to spread their own toppings on their toast/pikelets, which is great for building their fine motor and independence skills!

The Penguins also explored things that float and sink in water. We discovered that our sticks, paper, blocks and bath toys all floated on the top and the stones and coins sank to the bottom. We are all huge fans of water play so the highlight of this activity was definitely getting to put our hands in the water!

Our letter of the week is P. On Monday we joined our zoom class dressed up as princesses and pirates. We made princess crowns and pirate ships. For mathematics we learned about the shape – Pentagon. We also collected data about our favorite fruits and presented it in a pie graph. Our science experiments poking pencils through a water bag and making Paper mache was so much fun! We wrapped up the week with a pajama party and pizza for a well earned weekend!

The Kotare children have been learning about the letter ‘I‘ . For our reading activities we read a story about Ice-Cream soup and then we checked our comprehension and recall of the story. We talked about some of the concepts in the book. We also chatted about some of the sight words we had seen, recognising them and making them into our own sentences, especially using the two children’s names who begin with the letter of the week.

Our maths activity this week was position in relation to maths concepts – taking the words in, out, over and under, beside, in front, behind. We read some books and then played a game with our special toys to practice these concepts. Then we completed our number line activity, working with numbers that come before and after.
