This week the Kotare group have continued their interest in Dinosaurs by creating some amazing artwork, here are some of their finished pieces.
In the Maui and Kea classrooms, the Letter of the Week (o) has been cleverly combined with our Animals curriculum focus by the teachers. Octopus drawings, Ocean Animal prints and Owl watercolours have been produced to amazing effect. We are loving the children’s use of colour!
Through artistic expression, children are not only able to show their individual flair, but also develop their skills for communicating their ideas and extend their knowledge of how to use different mediums for creativity. Using art tools also helps them to work on fine motor development, and continue to extend their capability for concentrating on a set task. Above all, it is super fun!
Check out how many words beginning with O the Kea tamariki have been able to think of this week!
The Penguin group have been really enjoying getting outside and exploring with all of their senses – and what better place for this than the sandpit! Sand play is a great way for children to explore a variety of working theories, including science concepts such as volume, weight and measurement. Sandpit exploration also encourages children to develop social skills for taking turns and negotiating as they ‘make cakes’ and various other items together, sharing the equipment as they do so.
