Middle & Senior School Weekly Bulletin – 22 October

Welcome back to Term Four! It has been such a pleasure to have smiles and laughter back on the campus.

I have had the opportunity to visit different classes this week and look at the amazing project work done by the Middle School students which you will see in the photos below. The quality and creativity of their work is impressive.

We have a lot of fun things planned for Term Four, including Wig Wednesday next week, the details of which are included in the poster at the end of the Bulletin. The Positive Fairies Committee have already made a great start on the Shoebox Christmas initiative which is also highlighted below. Service to the School and the community is something that our students embrace wholeheartedly.

We could not be more proud of the way our Year 10 to 13 students have been approaching their exams and they deserve credit for their motivation and positive mindset.

Pōwhiri to welcome Kate Pollard

We welcomed our new principal Mrs Kate Pollard to Chilton on Monday.

Kate introduced herself to the students and teachers with a wonderful speech, before her and husband Scott planted a kōwhai in front of the JC. Watch the video above to check out the highlights from the ceremony.

Positive Fairies

The Year 7 & 8 Positive Fairies meeting had two special guests.

Thank you Rachel Lavis and Caitlin Lorima for coming to talk to the girls about Shoebox Christmas. It’s a fantastic initiative and we are pleased to involve everyone to support Epuni School.

Mrs Pollard visits Year 7 Maths

Mrs Bertram and both Year 7 classes showed Mrs Pollard what they have been learning in mathematics.

The lovely Year 7 classes have been very productive working on their Statistics project/assessment investigating the books in the library. Some of them involve looking at the number of vowels in a title, the number of chapters in a book and the number of words in the first sentence of a book. I’m immensely proud of their enthusiasm and effort! They have demonstrated a range of skills such as planning, drawing accurate graphs, analysing data and then telling a story. Well done girls!

Year 8 Science

The Year 8 students have just finished their science unit on light. They looked at reflection and refraction, as well as the structure of the eye. For their end of topic project, students were asked to create a physical piece of work accompanied by a digital presentation, poster or video to demonstrate their learning from the unit. Many students were obviously inspired by the cow’s eye dissection, with a number of eye models being created over the holidays. There were also kaleidoscopes, pinhole cameras and periscopes. Included are a selection of photos of the finished projects. Mrs Stoddart was very pleased with the work the students put into their projects, they are amazing!

Dinosaurs in class

We popped in to Mrs Rusling’s class on Friday and what did we come across? Two terrifying (not really) Tyrannosaurus rex!
What a way to welcome Mrs Pollard!

Our girls are promoting an assembly which will run in the upcoming term featuring these dinosaurs. We’re looking forward to seeing what is in store.

Exams

Our Senior students continue to work hard at their Cambridge examinations. The level of focus, dedication and effort is outstanding from our students and we are really proud of them! Not long to go now until they are all finished up and summer holidays await.

Join us as we celebrate Wig Wednesday at Chilton next Wednesday! The students may wear non-uniform with a wig or crazy hair in support of the Child Cancer Foundation.
