College Sport Wellington has just released their list of finalists for the Sportsperson of the Year Awards (SPOTY’s). This is the highlight of the sporting calendar for Wellington Schools. It’s a huge honour to be nominated and then to make a finalist! Chilton has a number of girls making a finalist. They are:
The awards evening has been cancelled and replaced with a Live Streamed event on Wednesday 10 November.
This is a huge achievement for Chilton. We are a small school and have taken many finalists each year many times above bigger schools. Go Chilton! Kia Kaha, and good luck.
Date & Time: Tuesday November 23 – 1.45 – 3.15pm
Venue: Jubilee Centre
This is one of our pinnacle events on the Chilton calendar. Our time to recognize our girls who have had success in their chosen sports, or in many sports for some! We also recognize girls who have participated in a number of sports for Chilton, Cups for players of the year, Contribution to sport, Student Coach of the year and we announce our finalists for Middle School and Senior school Sportsperson and All-round Sportsperson of the year. Students and staff will only attend this awards ceremony with the event live-streamed for our community.
Friday 5 November (Online Competition)
After nearly 10 months of training the Chilton Aerobic girls will finally get their chance to compete in the NZ Aerobics Champs. These girls show power, strength, flexibility, extreme anaerobic fitness, on top of performing! The live event in Wellington was cancelled on Monday and quickly replaced with an on-line option. The girls will have their routines filmed in their location (Wellington) with other locations in Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill. They will be judged on-line tomorrow with the event streamed on November 13 with the results. Over 230 athletes are involved. I can’t wait to watch our Chilton athletes in action, good luck girls.
Chilton Sport is in full swing for term 4. Both Junior Volley teams played home games this week with Chilton White taking a win against HVHS and Chilton Red playing a very exciting game which went point for point against St Orans.
Both of our Year 7 & 8 Futsal teams had wins in their first games. Go girls!
Girls Cricket this term is an 8 a-side 100 balls game. They fronted to Heretaunga on Thursday narrowly missing out on a win against a strong side. Glad to see the weather held out.
A fact about Chilton is that Chilton is a family. At Chilton we have older girls mixing and caring for younger girls and everyone looking out for each other. This aspect of Chilton life can be readily seen in our sports teams and in our sports clubs where the year groups are often mixed and everyone is enjoying being active and learning from each other. What a plus!
Over the week we have had our Touch teams take the field, our Underwater Hockey players winning medals, our Floorball teams continuing to dominate, our Year 0-2 Netball players making their debut on the court, our Year 6’s taking part in a netball league that will prepare them for the change to 7 aside in 2022 and our Tennis, Badminton and Cricket clubs continuing their weekly sessions.
Another packed sporting week for our students. Keep active everyone!
Congratulations Savannah Currie- Year 6!
Savannah recently gained 3rd place overall in the Step 3 Hutt Valley Gymnastics competition. Good luck for the challenge ahead Savannah- Step 4!
