CSW Sportsperson of the Year Awards

The College Sports Wellington SPOTY’s (Sportspersons of the Year) awards were streamed live on-line on Wednesday night. The on-line event replaced the usual Awards dinner evening which couldn’t be held due to Level 2 restrictions. While we were saddened we couldn’t be there in person to support and enjoy the celebration with our 4 Finalists, we watched with much pride as Chilton took top honours!!
Darae Chung, for the 2nd year in a row, won the Premier Overall Sportsperson award! Congratulations Darae. You have worked so hard in a very challenging year to stay on top of your game. This is so very well deserved.
Chilton actually had 4 finalists and 3 winners.

  • Elizabeth Hewitt – Winner of Athletics Athlete of the Year
  • Darae Chung – Winner of Golfer of the Year, and the Premier Award
  • Erika Cui – Finalist for Golfer of the Year
  • Elle Kane & Elizabeth Hewitt – Finalist for Senior Team of the Year (Aerobics duo).

This has again been a Covid affected year with many events cancelled or postponed which makes a difficult season to try to train for. You’ve built up to a championship only to have it postponed, then having to start your training season again and condense it quickly before your event.

True credit to our girls as they have shown resilience and determination during their seasons. Yeah Chilton girls!!

Did you know that this is the 3rd consecutive year that Chilton has won the top award Chelsea Edwards first won the award in 2019. Chilton have actually won the Premier award a total of 6 times.

Climbing

Congratulations to Meredith Butcher. While Meredith was unable to attend the recent Climbing New Zealand camp due to exams, she has received discretionary selection for the NZ Development Squad. Well done Meredith.

The week beginning Monday 15th of November is Play Week and Pukukataroa, part of Hutt City Councils Active in the Hutt team have sent this reminder about the importance of play for our children.See the chart below, you might like to ask your daughter to put a circle around all the activities you have played together.

Play Week is a week to celebrate all things play and aims to bring attention to the importance of play for everyone across Aotearoa New Zealand – for tamariki, whānau and their communities. The intention is to challenge parents, caregivers and other adults to play with their kids every day during Play Week and increase their awareness about the importance of play in building children and young people’s resilience and wellbeing.

Gear Amnesty!

Over the year we have had a number of events paused and there are some sports singlets outstanding from cross country and gear bags from Term 2 sports teams. If you do have some CSJ attire lurking in your car boot or about home we would love you to drop it to the main office or to the sports office.
