Primary Prize Giving

It was wonderful to celebrate excellence in Primary at Prize Giving on Wednesday. Whilst our Primary parents and whanau couldn’t join us at school, they were able to tune in via the livestream and enjoy the ceremony with us!

Congratulations to all the girls who received accolades on Wednesday.

Members of Stowe House will be thrilled to hear that following a drought of 25 years, the Kate Kirkcaldie Rosebowl went to Stowe in 2021. Congratulations Stowe girls!

Each one of the Primary girls has progressed and achieved in so many areas at school this year We are so proud of them all!

Year 1

Technology

Making a soft toy to comfort us in the night.

First, we learnt how to sew over and under and we made a connection with Mathematics using a sequential pattern.

Next, we sewed our soft toy fabric.

Thirdly, we stuffed our soft toy and used our creativity to design the body.

The children reflected on what it was like to be a learner. Our children know that hard work is part of the process going from the unknown to the known. It was important for the children to experience challenge and they did! The wool got tangled, some scissors didn’t work, and the felt was hard to cut.

But through sheer grit and determination they did it!

It was tricky to cut the felt but we got the hang of it and I worked hard at sewing. I had fun. I had enjoyed the hard work. I was blown away with the creation. Sewing was new learning. My heart was telling me that it was fun. It was tricky to pull the wool and hard to cut the felt. I could sew all day. I will sleep with my toy. Nazy Ahmadi

In the Learning Pit we did sewing today because we had to do our toys. That was hard work. My heart was telling me it was hard. My new learning was sewing over and under. Erica Li

We loved them!

Fundamental Skills

The girls really enjoyed their Ripper Rugby this week. It is great to see them building their skills.  After a warm up they went into teams. They all knew to throw the ball with a W grip and practiced their passing, dodging and weaving. Then they played a pairs game of “heads, shoulders, knees, toes, heads, rip!”  with many different variations. Finally, they played a game. During the whole session the girls demonstrated all the Chilton Values and amazing sportsmanship. Fantastic effort Year 3!

Year 5

Year 5 have been working on a poetry unit. We have read The Jabberwocky and this week have been reading The Listeners. After our first reading of the poem we created graffiti pages in our books of all the questions and our initial thoughts about the poem.

Our Head of Middle School and Senior School English teacher, Mrs Hayton, came to see our work. She spoke to us about how English is about being a detective. It’s about making a theory and then finding words or phrases that give us evidence to support our theories.
