I am no longer going to comment when anyone says – Cambridge is too hard. I am going to point them in the direction of the students in Year 10, 2020 and say – ask them. Then have a look at the results.
No one in Year 10 is obliged to sit IGCSE. However, we gave the opportunity because we genuinely believed that our girls were more capable than anyone realised and now the data shows it. It gives us immense pleasure to share the following:
IGCSE English Language
Students in English had the IGCSE English Language course interwoven with their literature. They virtually leapt to sit and the results are as follows:
| IGCSE | A* | A | B | C | D | Median |
| 0500 English Language | 10% | 48% | 10% | 29% | 5% | 80% |
IGCSE Combined Science
We made the decision, through the advice of our Head of Science, Ms Millie Kennedy Goor, to teach Combined Science over two years. Once again, no one had to sit but many did and the results are phenominal:
| IGCSE | A* | A | B | C | D | Median |
| 0653 Combined Science | 65% | 18% | 12% | 6% | 90% |
IGCSE Core Mathematics
In Year 10, students have the option to sit Core Mathematics. Because it is Core, they can only gain a Grade C or lower. A Grade D gives students numeracy for entry to tertiary study.
| IGCSE | C | D | E | F | Median |
| 0580 Core Mathematics | 82% | 9% | 9% | 3% | 84% |
Because of the strong success of students at Year 10 – all of them, we now give Year 9 students a special opportunity. Last year, a group of hardworking Mathematicians agreed to do extra classes with Mrs Jocelyn Gilling, Head of Mathematics, in their own time. They had to sit a full IGCSE Core Mathematics test in Term 4 and had to gain a pass of over 80%.
Congratulations to Kay Guo, Grace Liu, Mae Meng, Anna Nguyen, Jessica Park, Katherine Wang, Kaylyn Wang, Megan Wong, Fiona Yang and Ella Zhang.
These students now join Year 11 students sitting IGCSE Extended Mathematics.
To all parents of girls at Chilton – never underestimate the talents and capabilities of your daughter. Every girl at Chilton is capable of achieving and, being a boutique school, we can cater for individuals – especially your daughter.
I hope you join me in feeling incredibly proud of every Year 10 girl from last year. They are a great group and have now been joined by a new student who comes all the way from Christchurch to do Cambridge.
Kind regards,
Kathy Lloyd-Parker
Principal
