Middle & Senior School Weekly Bulletin – 26 November

Tēnā koutou katoa

The Year 1-10 students had a fantastic time at the Active Fun Day last Friday. The Middle School students particularly enjoyed helping the younger Primary students with their activities. This was a great opportunity for them to lead by example.

We had our new Year 7-9 students in for Orientation Day today where they had workshops with staff and students this morning followed by a Scavenger Hunt/Amazing Race this afternoon. I would like to thank the students who gave up their time to help with the workshops and who showed model leadership to our new students. Mrs Rose Bertram was instrumental in putting together the programme for the day and we are thankful for her work in making this a success.

Another highlight of this week was having the opportunity to see the Year 10 Drama students perform ‘Night of the Dolls’ which was excellent, with each student embodying their character so well. Pictured in Natalie’s paragraph below. This was followed later in the week by the Year 8’s who were performing their own devised pieces and it was fantastic to see their imagination made real on stage. It was a privilege to be an audience member!

Year 7-9 Reports

The Year 7-9 Term 4 reports will be sent home today (Friday) and on Monday. If you have not received your daughter’s report by Tuesday morning, please contact Deb Everett in the school office. Please do not hesitate to contact subject teachers if you have any questions regarding the reports.

Family Christmas Challenge #1

There’s nothing better than some good old friendly competition to kick off the holiday season! The Middle School Council is challenging you and your family to a Christmas Costume Competition. It’s time to dust off those “ugly” Christmas sweaters, reindeer antlers, and Santa costumes because for the best dressed family (and pets), prizes will be coming your way! To enter, please send your Christmas Family Fashion photos to jhayton@chilton.school.nz and kwang2@chilton.school.nz by Friday 3 December. Winners will be announced in the following week.

We haven’t had any entries yet, but we are looking forward to a snowfall this week in our inbox of fabulous Family Xmas Fashion!

Family Christmas Challenge #2

On Tuesday 7 December, we will be running a Kahoot Family Quiz online. The Middle School Council has been hard at work putting the questions together and there will be a prize for the winning family. This will be done via Zoom and Kahoot. We will be sending out specific information soon with a link to Zoom and the time the quiz starts.

Year 10 Drama – Night of the Dolls

For the end of the year, Year 10 Drama put on the one act play “Night of the Dolls”. The show itself is very fun to be a part of because the interactions and contrasts between all the individual characters are extremely fun to experiment with. It was such a good play to have fun with as well as allowing us to try out the skills we’ve learnt over the year.” –  Natalie Mower, Year 10 Drama.

Sports Awards

Thanks to the Sports Team; Julie Cameron, Arlene Hewitt and Alex Dennehy, for putting on a fantastic event. We enjoyed celebrating the success of the students together and we hear parents really enjoyed the livestream.

Music – Year 8

Last week it was Bob Marley and Leonard Cohen rocking the halls of Vogel and this week it was the turn of Snow Patrol. Students from 8S performed Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” for their ensemble performance. This group was also selected to play at the Year 7 Orientation Music workshops and inspire our new, soon to be Chilton students.
