Primary School Weekly Bulletin – 29 October

Year 0

Year 0 girls have been learning to write independently. We were talking about what they wanted to be when they grew up. You will be very interested to learn the creativity and diversity of ideas in their thinking!

Firstly, they brainstormed their ideas while they drew their picture. Next, they decided what they wanted to write. Finally, they approximated writing the words they needed, to express their ideas. Approximating involves saying each word and listening carefully to the sounds they can hear, then writing the letters that record those sounds. On entry to school, girls begin with daily one on one supported writing, moving to independent writing as their letter/sound knowledge and confidence grow. They use the alphabet card to help them, as well as their knowledge of the words they have learnt to spell. Over the next few days, the girls are going to publish their writing so that we can put it on display and share their thoughts.

Year 2

Year 2 has started off the term very well and jumped straight into our Primary Production Practise. Here we are all dressed up in our Hobgoblin costumes. Do you think we look scary?

When we are practising our production, we have to practise many of our school values in many ways.

Respect – we have to show respect for the teachers that are helping us by listening and following their instructions. We also have to remember how much time and effort they are putting into this fabulous production. We need to show respect for each other and also respect for our costumes.

Resilience – we have to show resilience when things may seem a bit tricky at first. New things can make us feel a little bit nervous but we know that if we keep practicing we will eventually get there and we will be amazing!

Integrity – we need to always do the right thing at the right time. This is very important when the teachers are trying to show us how to do things. Listening to what they say and then following through is key!

Inclusivity – we need to remember that we are all part of the Chilton Primary Whānau and we need to make sure that our friends feel just as important as we do while we are practising and performing.

Year 4

We are all so excited to be back at school and getting ready for a busy but fun term. One of our big highlights this term is working on the school show, and also our Choscars for our stop motion animation inquiry.

There were a lot of fabulous wigs and hairstyles on Wig Wednesday!

We have started this term by looking at non-fiction texts. We have been searching for information in our journal articles, and then have been writing what we find on post it notes. After that, we share our knowledge and information with our group. We then used all the information we gathered to make tiny brochures and posters. They are looking fantastic and are full of information about animals, insects and amphibians.

Year 6

Our current unit for Maths is ‘Financial Literacy.’ The girls have searched up flights to Brisbane and Queenstown and now have an appreciation of costs.

They have also explored and learnt terms related to financial awareness e.g. trade off, budget, consumer, loan, choices.

Financial literacy is the ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. Financial literacy is the foundation of your relationship with money, and it is a lifelong journey of learning.

Year 6 has been thoroughly enjoying rehearsals for The Snow Queen. They are all set for their dance and we cannot wait to see you.

Wig Wednesday was a HUGE success the girls loved wearing their wigs and supporting Child Cancer.
