Primary School Weekly Bulletin – 5 November

Primary School Weekly Bulletin – 5 November

Year 1

In Mathematics we have been learning about developing our instant knowledge in addition and subtraction.

We have been grouping our numbers together so that it will make it easier for us to add.

The children observe and scaffold their thinking in such a way that they focus on developing their strategies by transferring their learning into a new context.

Here the children are sharing the names for ten.

By learning the patterns, the children can be challenged to make adding easier by grouping numbers together and explain the choices they make. For Example,

7+5+3= I know that 7+3=10, and 5 more make 15.

We continue to build confidence to stretch their thinking and foster a love for learning.

Year 3

It was lovely to see some Whacky hair to fundraise for such a great cause as Child Cancer.

Year 3 girls have continued to learn about different styles of poetry and have become experts at writing acrostic poems! These are two by Isla Bryant and Sophia Soulsby.

Inquiry – Creating a Stop Motion Film
The Year 3 girls are following a timeline so they can practise their time management skills and understand the process of making a film. They are so excited about creating their Stop Motion films and can’t wait to start filming, but they have a lot to do first!

This includes:

  • Writing the story using settings, characters, problem and resolution
  • Creating a storyboard to show their story
  • Bringing in the props and other requirements for their set
  • Creating their set

Then they can start to film!

Year 5

Year 5 have a had a wonderful start to Term 4. We have been busy with assessments and Snow Queen rehearsals.

We have started our new Inquiry into Digital wellbeing. We are investigating the opportunities and challenges that evolving technology presents to individuals and society.

In Literacy we have been developing our inferencing skills. Year 5 took part in an Inference Escape Room. They had to find the clues in the playground. Each clue had a short paragraph on it. They had to read the paragraph and use clues from the paragraph to answer the question given.
